I've stumbled upon various "dipped" pieces of furniture that I have been obsessing over. They are very unique and colorful.

I really wanted to try this technique on something but didn't have the right piece until one day I stepped out of my house and saw this super cute small round table on the corner of my street. I guess one of my neighbors didn't see the potential I did!
My sis and I decided to use the table for our office and knew that it needed to be painted. We knew we wanted to paint it black and white but didn't know how far we wanted to take the "dip". We tormented ourselves with that question. Should we dip the feet only, the entire base, or maybe just part of the base? Scroll down to see what we decided. Here are some pics and steps of the painting process.
First we sanded the entire table and applied a coat of Killz primer.
Then we painted the entire table with our main color which was Behr Ultra Pure White Hi-Gloss Enamel. We applied 3 coats of this paint to ensure an even smooth color.
Then we taped off the part we were going to dip. It was easier to turn it upside down to paint the feet black. We applied 2 coats of the Behr Beluga paint color on the feet.
Lastly we applied 2 coats of this polyurethane to the entire table to protect the paint.
This is our finished product. What do you guys (Maura) think?
The entire painting process took a few days because we had to wait for the paint to dry between every coat we applied. We love the way it turned out! We'll update you shortly on where exactly in the office it will live.

Ha! I think it looks great! I would never believe you got it for (practically) free. -Maura
